Introduction – Main ideas

Due to a series of different circumstances, many youngsters may become Early Leavers from Education or Training (ELET) or even drop out from education entirely. This phenomenon has been proven to be detrimental for both the individuals and society at large, it’s necessary then to understand the root causes of this phenomenon and how it could be prevented.

This module has the objective to introduce the learner to the Early school leaving phenomenon, and it will consist of:

A brief excursus on the definition of ELET, ESL and Drop-out, how these groups are categorised and the numbers of the phenomenon in Europe
A presentation of the common predictive risk factors of Early School Leaving and the impact that each has regarding the phenomenon
Guidelines for the construction of an effective Educational Network within the local communities for the prevention of ELET and example provided by existing systems
An analysis of the current learning activities and methodologies, highlighting their flaws and the impact that they have on Early School Leaving.

Lesson 1 Early School Leave. Lesson 2 Predictive factors of Early School Leaving	What factors incide on Early School Leaving The role of educators in Early School Leaving Causes of ELET outside the school	Develop a more inclusive and broader approach to Early School Leaving Minimise the effect of some of the predictive factors	Provide educators with the knowledge and means needed to better contrast the ELET phenomenon
Lesson 3 Promoting communities of practises	The impact of a better community network of Early School Leaving Results of higher involvement of parents in school activities The Educational Pact of Co-responsibility	Develop and effective Educational network Construct a more involved relationship between schools-learners and families Develop and agreement between all the parties involved in a local community	Organise a broad network of stakeholders, parents and school to prevent Early School Leaving Provide learners with a wider range of support by all parties involved in their local community Give opportunities to School, Families and stakeholder to interact Provide educators with the support of non-teaching actors to create a more inclusive and higher quality of educational content
Lesson 4 Learning activities and teaching methodologies: where are we?
